Notes from the Dragon Cave

From the Desk of Schuba...

The staff and I want to personally remind you about our upcoming Council Meeting on Thursday, Nov. 1, at 5:30 p.m. in the Cafeteria. These open forums are integral to our innovation plan and mission/vision created by our founding families. Please mark your calendars because we need you! Two important agenda topics for discussion and review:

  • The School Performance Framework (SPF) 2018 Results. The SPF is similar to a report card for schools. It measures process and opportunities related to support of student growth, achievement and service. It also provides essential feedback for those of us in leadership roles, helping us to focus on strengths and where improvement is needed. To review Isabella Bird Community School’s 2018 SPF report, visit http://spf.dpsk12.org/en/elementary-schools/. At Izzi B, we believe what is most important is not where kids start, but how much they grow.

  • Revised 2018-2019 Unified Improvement Plan (UIP) and Fundraising Re-Prioritization. The Education Accountability Act of 2009 requires Colorado districts and schools to create an annual improvement plan to advance student learning and system effectiveness. To construct an effective UIP for Isabella Bird for the 2018-2019 school year, we’ll consider as a group what changes, if any, need to be made within our current fundraising priorities.

We looking forward to seeing you at the upcoming Council Meeting! Childcare is provided.

REALGiving Campaign for Thanksgiving

The 9th Annual REALGiving Campaign in Stapleton is underway to provide King Soopers gift cards to families in need at Thanksgiving. Last year, Stapleton-area Realtors, lenders, friends, Forest City and The Foundation for Sustainable Urban Communities raised $13,500 within the community and local school food pantries. This year, the need has increased to 185+ families at IBCS and other neighborhood schools, including Swigert, Westerly Creek, Bill Roberts, McAuiffe, Denver Discovery, Northfield and Ashley Elementary. We are asking for your donation to help us purchase King Soopers gift cards with a minimum value of $70 for the identified families. To donate, visit www.thewcepta.com/realgiving. On the donation page, enter your information and scroll down for donation package details. Donations are tax deductible. Gift cards will be loaded with available funds on Wednesday, Nov. 14 and delivered to schools for distribution to families before the holiday break. Thanks to the Westerly Creek PTA for powering the secure giving site to allow you to donate via credit card! For more info and updates please visit the REALGiving Facebook page.
