Notes from the Dragon Cave

From the Desk of Schuba...

Dear Izzi B. Families and Friends,

IBCS Staff continue to host grade-level math nights aimed at bringing parents and guardians into the classroom to learn the mechanics of math strategies and philosophies currently taught to our students. Just last week, Education Week featured an incredibly well-timed article, 'Storytime, Meet Number Play: Early Math in the Home Matters for Later Skills.' Math, like literacy, is an equally important educational and life-long skill.

If you were unable to attend a math night, I encourage you to reach out to your student's teacher for resources and valuable insight, so you can help foster math familiarity and confidence within your child in and out of the classroom.

And speaking of math, please join your IBCS Community this Thursday, Feb. 20, 5:30-7 p.m., for our monthly Council Meeting. Agenda items are programming and budget. Free childcare is always provided at Council Meetings.

Take Action...

IBCS Student Behavior Expectations

Isabella Bird is committed to promoting positive student behavior to facilitate effective and peaceful learning environments for all students, staff, instructors and volunteers. On Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2 p.m., meet with Principal Schuba in Room 201 to learn how volunteers and community teachers can promote positive behavior among Isabella Bird students. Topics include school-wide behavior expectations, typical school methods for positive behavior recognition, our behavior referral process, consequences for individual or ongoing behavior issues, when to contact the office and a new weekly behavior form facilitating communication between school administration and community teachers and volunteers.
