From the Desk of Schuba...

Isabella Bird Families and Friends,
Parent Teacher Conferences are almost complete and we hope families have enjoyed the evening schedule this year. The best part is you have a wonderful fall break Oct. 17-22.
Our Cafeteria Staff are an amazing bunch who work hard to produce home-cooked meals for our students every day. Denver Public Schools has changed its lunch policy this year, which means our school must pay for all UNPAID lunch charges. This change could have a huge impact on our budget. Currently, IBCS has $1,000 in unpaid meals. I will reach out directly to families with unpaid balances and remind parents to submit payment as soon as possible. Payment can be submitted via DPS' Food and Nutrition Services (FNS) recently launched School Café. A detailed flier provides an overview of the new system and step-by-step directions for accessing payment information, menus and more. If you have questions or need help, please contact Food and Nutrition Services via email foodservices@dpsk12.org, or phone 720-423-5600.
For questions or conversation, reach out to Schuba via email lisa_schuba@dpsk12.org or phone 720-423-9900.

Fall Exploratories Volunteers Needed
The Fall session of Exploratories begins Friday, Oct. 25, and will run for eight Fridays, 1:40-2:30 p.m. (10/25, 11/1, 11/8, 11/15, 11/22, 12/6, 12/13 and 12/20). Exploratories provide opportunities for students to learn about a topic of interest from an expert. 3rd-5th graders participate in the fall session, and will have a variety of topics from which to choose. To keep class sizes reasonable, it is crucial we provide a large number of options. Exploratories are led by a combination of commercial (paid) vendors, school staff, and parent volunteers. We are in need of additional volunteers to assist with several Exploratories, including: Bluff Lake Nature Center to walk with staff and students to/from the nature center, board games and stop-motion movie creation (materials provided). All that is required is a quick, free DPS background check. Please find sign-up options online via the volunteering calendar available at www.ibcscouncil.org. For questions, please contact IBCS Parent and Exploratories Committee Chair, Michael McMurray. Thank you for helping enrich the educational experience of Izzi B. kids!
What's Going on With...

School Volunteer Background Check
IBCS loves our volunteers! If you're volunteering in the classroom, attending a field trip, or participating in another child-facing activity, you'll need to have a DPS-issued and -approved background check on file with IBCS' Front Office. Complete a background check by visiting DPS' Family and Community Engagement web page and following the prompts. Background checks are good for 3-years. For questions, contact DPS' Volunteer Services at 720-423-3002 or via email: Volunteer_Services@dpsk12.org.
